Morning Sounds

Once upon a time
In a land where I was young
I lived in a tiny cottage
Where happy songs were sung.

The morning sounds I loved
Was the clatter in the kitchen
While the kids got ready for the day.
All the teasing and the laughter
As they prepared to go their way.

I loved to watch their faces
As they listened to the birds.
And I found it so delightful
As they made up their own words.

One said the Cardinal told her
To have a happy day.
Another said he heard a laugh
From the crabby old Blue-Jay.

I never will forget those days
When children lived here too.
Now my morning sounds consist
Of the birds outside my window
Though now...
Their songs sound a little blue.
