Christmas... 2002

This year I feel so melancholy

I'm reliving past Christmas' in my mind.

Once again I'm happy and carefree

As I travel back through time.

There's the tree bought early one year

Propped up against the house so forlorn

Waiting to be brought in on Christmas Eve

To surprise the children in the morn.

And surprised we always were

At the miracle Santa had done.

He trimmed our tree so brilliantly

And left gifts for each and everyone.

What a time we had on Christmas day

With aunts and uncles and cousins who

Spent the day with us and shared

Not just gifts but love and laughter too.

I remember mom busy in the kitchen

And dad playing with the train.

Cousin Bob hootin' and hollerin'

With the kids in some noisy game.

I miss those Christmas' of yesteryear

Those days of way back when.

This year as my children gather 'round

I'll smile and shed a tear

As my heart wanders back

To childhood once again.
